Adult Learning Center
Henderson
Community College
The Adult
Learning Center, located at Henderson Community College, offers Pre-GED and GED
preparation classes, assessments such as On-Line Assessment, Bennett
Mechanical, TABE, Work Keys and the WINS curriculum. Assistance with
resume development and how to complete job applications are also
available. English as a second language classes are also
available. GED classes provide
educational opportunities to adults who wish to continue beyond
AE
classes, allowing them to achieve a high school equivalency, and to
enable them
to increase their wage earning potential.
The Adult Learning Center is open
Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm with extended hours to 7:30pm

passed and completed all components of the current GED test
by
December 31, 2001, or you will have to start over with the new test
which
will be in place as of January 1, 2002. So if you still
need to complete one
or more sections of the current GED don't put
it off much longer!
American Association of Retired Persons
(AARP)
The AARP Senior Community
Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides temporary work
experience for people aged 55 and older with limited financial
resources. SCSEP gives clients the opportunity to sharpen and
develop skills while searching for a permanent job. AARP
places clients with nonprofit or public service host agency
positions for 20 hours per week to receive on-the-job training.
During this period of temporary employment clients work with the
project director and staff to locate permanent part-time or full
time employment. Typical training positions include:
activities coordinator, bookkeeper, cashier, clerk typist,
custodian, data entry clerk,
day care worker, driver, food service
worker, groundskeeper, mechanic, receptionist, sales person,
security guard and teacher's aide. A representative from this
program is on site at the Career Connections Center every other

Audubon Area Community Services
(AACS)
Some of the services offered
by Audubon Area Community
Services (AACS) throughout the Green River area include
utility assistance, USDA Surplus Food Program, Head Start,
Weatherization (low-income families whose homes need repairs to
their heat system or need to be prepared for the winter), and Green
River Intra-County Transit Systems (GRITS). In Henderson you may contact Crystal

Green River Area Development District
(GRADD)
The Green
River Area Development District (GRADD) provides
employment and training services as outlined in Title I of the
Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The target groups served
include dislocated workers, low income and low skilled
workers. Case management and referral to training are the
focus of this program. GRADD's mission is to increase the
employment, retention and earnings of clients, increase occupational
skill attainment, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce
welfare dependency and enhance the productivity and competitiveness
of the Green River Area. The contact person in Henderson is

Henderson at the Career Connections Center Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday 2:00am to 4:30pm and Fridays from 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

Department of Community Based

Children's Health Insurance Program
(KCHIP)
What is KCHIP? The Kentucky Children's Health
Insurance Program (KCHIP) provides free
health insurance for Kentucky's children at no cost to the family.
Uninsured
children from birth to 19 years of age who live in
families with income at or below
200% of the Federal Poverty Level
is eligible. (For a family of four that is $35,300 a
year.)
KCHIP covers everything from
checkups to prescriptions, broken bones to booster shots,
eyeglasses, hearing aids, dental care, behavioral health, hospital
care and more.

Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is located in the
Career Connection Center at the Henderson Community College, 2660 S.

Department for Employment Services and other partners in the Center

Kentucky
Department for the Blind (DFB) counselors work in conjunction with
Department for Employment Services (DES) staff to provide job search
assistance and specialized services to customers. Larry Allen,

Or you may come into the Center at 141 North Water Street anytime to
access the services of DES and the other partner agencies located in
the WorkForce Development Center. The Resource Center at this
location offers assistive technology to the visually impaired. The

parking is provided to all of our customers.

Kentucky Farmworker Program
(KFP)
Kentucky Farmworker Program (KFP)
The Kentucky Farmworker Programs, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation, which offers a full range of manpower and supportive services to
farm workers. Kentucky Farmworker Program services are available to
farm workers and their families who during the eligibility determination period (any consecutive 12-month period within the 24-month period preceding application for enrollment) earned at least $800 in
farm work; and who has been primarily employed in farm work on a seasonal
basis and have total family incomes at or below the level of poverty as defined by the Federal Government.
KFP Manpower Program starts with recruitment and follows the client through training into employment and six month after employment. KFP can and does offer whatever assistance the
farm worker client needs to make the change into full-time employment.

Earle C. Clements Job Corps
Center
The Earle C. Clements Job Corps
Center offers training in 22 different vocational skills
to people
16 to 24 years of age (no age requirements for persons with verified
disabilities) that meet the income requirements. Students can
also earn a high school diploma, GED and attend college classes
through the co-enrollment programs with Henderson Community College
and Owensboro Junior College of
Business. The training is
free, as are all of the support services including job placement
assistance, basic medical and dental care and career guidance.
The Center also offers a non-residential program. A
representative is on-site at the Career Connections Center 1/2 day

Job Corps is the largest residential
education and training program in the United States for
disadvantaged youth ages 16 through 24. The mission of the Job Corps
program is to help economically disadvantaged young adults become
responsible, employable and productive citizens by providing them
with opportunities to develop the vocational, educational and social
skills needed to succeed. For more information about the national

Henderson Housing Authority
The Housing Authority of Henderson
provides affordable low rent housing and housing assistance programs
for low-income families and elderly citizens of Henderson
County. The Housing Authority of Henderson owns and rents 430
apartments and provides over 600 Section 8 certificates for various
rental properties in Henderson County. Some on-site training
programs are offered for targeted groups. For additional
