Henderson
Employment Services
Part of the Career Connections Center System
The
Workforce Investment Board for the Green River Service Delivery Area
met on May 15, 2001 and voted to make the Henderson
Department for Employment Services (DES) office a
"satellite" of the Career Connections Center, the area’s
one-stop career center. In asking the board to approve her committee’s
recommendation, Karen Cecil, One-Stop Review Committee chairperson,
stated that she was impressed with changes made in the way DES serves
its customers. Among the changes she mentioned, the creation of the
office’s resource areas was seen as being among the most vital. The
board voted unanimously to accept the committee’s proposal.
Brenda
Stone, manager of the Henderson DES office, stated, "I feel that
the members of the Workforce Investment Board began to realize the
significant part the Employment Service plays in the local labor
market when each of the partners pulled together to process over 2000
applications for Alcan in Sebree. Until our department spearheaded the
Alcan effort, several of our partners were not aware of the volume of
work our staff can generate."
The
staff in the Henderson DES office have also worked to ensure that the
building has a customer-friendly atmosphere. When one walks into the
Henderson DES Office these days, it no longer resembles the drab
stereotype of a government building. Instead, customers are greeted by
friendly staff in a cheerful resource area who are anxious to make
each service-seeker comfortable with the newly implemented
self-registration process.
The Henderson DES
Office also has a second resource area and a computer learning center
in the basement. The computers in the learning center can be used for
the self-registration process when needed, but primarily they are
equipped with keyboarding and other software tutorials that are used
by customers to learn computer skills.
The staff of the
Henderson DES office are proud to be able to better serve the people
of the Green River area as a satellite center of the Career
Connections Center.
