In May of this year the Department for Employment Services
(DES) launched Virtual Interviewing, one of the most viable
and proactive approaches to workforce development and
delivery in Kentucky. Virtual Interviewing is conducted
using video-conferencing, an interactive audio/visual
meeting channel which operates via high speed telephone
lines. Video-conferencing combines the benefits of
face-to-face interaction with the power of
telecommunications. This technology allows people at
two or more locations to see and hear each other at the same
time.
The department sees this as a way to provide Kentucky
employers statewide interview, promotion and orientation
ability. The sites that currently offer this service are the
DES office in
Louisville,
Florence
One-Stop,
Fort
Knox,
Fort
Campbell
and Georgetown.
If
an employer is interested in scheduling an interview session
or just
wants to obtain more information you may email the specific
office above or contact Rosemary
Griffith
at 502-564-3906.
The project is being piloted with military installations.
The military services with their heavy emphasis on training
and advanced technology offer area employers a ready
resource of qualified applicants who have specialized
technical and administrative skills as well as more
labor-intensive skills. Virtual Interviewing will
permit area employers, through the resources of DES, to
expand their recruitment and screening process to military
personnel in advance of their discharge and/or retirement.
Virtual
Interviewing allows you to interview job candidates quickly
and easily.
It offers the advantage of conducting interviews at
non-traditional times thus removing the problems that arise
from travel and time constraints for both the employer and
the applicant.
In the
future DES Local Offices across Kentucky will have the
capability to bring all of our job seekers and employers
together using this technology.
